About This Production
Synopsis:
Gallo Morales returns home after being imprisoned for seven years for murdering a man over a cockfight. His family welcomes him back with mixed feelings. While his daughter Angela is eager to have him back, his son Hector feels otherwise. Hector desires to leave behind the farm and wants to use the family’s prize-winning cock, which he has inherited from his grandfather, to win money in order to move his family away. However, Gallo has returned from prison determined to continue the business and to raise a new flock of roosters. Hector and Gallo soon clash over their differing goals.
Press Release:
Phoenix, Arizona – Teatro Bravo! and Spotlight Youth Theatre are proud to present the mounting of Roosters by Milcha Sanchez-Scott from July 19 through July 28, 2024. Showtimes are Friday and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.
“We felt that this needed to be addressed, not by words but action. We decided to help make the show happen because some people in the community at large may have just seen a show getting canceled, but I see it as an opportunity lost for eight Latinx artists to participate in art-making.”, says Ricky Araiza of Teatro Bravo. “Kenny from Spotlight Youth Theatre – who I had never met – reached out when he heard we were looking for a space; and once we finished chatting in our first meeting, it became clear that we were both on the same page and wanted to right a wrong that was done to our community.”
