This is a new musical by Kenny Grossman, with a little help from his friends. A magical rain cloud finds its way to troubled towns. When it rains on the town, the people break out into song and dance about their troubles, fears, hopes and dreams — and magical, musical stories come to life.

The cast rehearsed the whole show in the setting of a daytime theatre camp during holiday break (Dec. 20-31), to perform for both live audience and video. This is a no-cut show, where every child gets a role and an unforgettable theatre experience!

In thirty years we will be telling our grandchildren about how we survived the great Covid-19 pandemic. We will tell tales of quarantining, social distancing, masks, vaccines, and Zoom. We will likely focus on funny stories, skills we learned while stuck at home, and how TikTok took over society.

But in the back of our minds, we will also remember the devastation the virus had on our world—the many who died, the divide that was created within our communities, the strain on teachers and students, and the anxiety and depression that took over many lives.

Spotlight Youth Theatre has a reputation of sharing stories of the things that are going on in the modern world—current issues with which our youth are struggling. I am humbled to be given the opportunity to help share this story with you—the story of a girl who found herself during this crazy pandemic.

While we are still in the midst of this pandemic, we at Spotlight have had the chance to continue our work with these amazing kids who may be struggling with their own issues. However, they are always happy to be here; to be doing what they love. And we are so happy to be here with them, sharing in the joy of the community that is in this building.

In the soon to be famous words of Kenny Grossman: “STAY POSITIVE, TEST NEGATIVE!”
