2019-2020 Gobies held online

Sep. 19, 2020

Around 200 households joined us for our annual celebration where we honored the performers who made Spotlight Youth Theatre’s 2019-2020 season such a huge success while it lasted!  Every show, actor and ensemble who performed on the Spotlight Youth Theatre stage were nominated for a coveted “Gobie” award.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Gobies was a live-streamed event this year, in a program hosted by Artistic Director Kenny Grossman with production by Josh Hontz and Bobby Sample. Many guests recorded presentations at different times, and many more—including SYT alumni who are now away attending college—conducted face-to-face interviews with Kenny on screen on the Spotlight stage to reflect on their experiences in youth theatre.

In place of the matching trophies that are handed out for fun at the usual Gobies dinner in person, the “e-Gobies” as Kenny calls them are to be emailed to the winners as personalized keepsake certificates in the PDF printable format.

The 2019-2020 Gobies served as a test run, for Spotlight, of the ShowTix4U system both for selling (free this time) tickets to the event, and for live-streaming the show at its scheduled time. The shows of at least the first half of the 2020-2021 season, announced by Kenny during the program, will utilize this system. These shows will offer the hybrid experience of live theatre on our stage both with small casts and physically-distanced audiences in person, while streamed online for much larger audiences.
