Humble Beginnings
21 years ago, Spotlight Youth Theatre produced our first ever musical, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, in December of 2004. With no space to call home, SYT performed in three locations for this one production: The Glendale Boys and Girls Club, Glendale Civic Center, and Saguaro Ranch Elementary School.
For Spotlight’s first few years, we were a “vagabond” theatre company, performing around the valley in any space that would take us. SYT’s first few seasons were performed in schools and spaces like The Glendale Adult Center, and even some locations that are no longer in business like The West Valley Art Museum, and North Point Academy.
From the very beginning, Spotlight Youth Theatre was helping kids and families of all backgrounds find a safe space to express themselves through the magic of youth theatre.
In 2008, SYT moved into three open studio spaces on 43rd Ave and Peoria Ave. This space has been Spotlight’s home ever since, having performed over 100 shows in this location. We’ve continued to rise in popularity around the valley, becoming the most award-winning community theatre in all of Arizona.
Ever since Spotlight Youth Theatre’s very first performance all those years ago, we have been dedicated to our mission to provide youth performers of all ages and their families a safe, welcoming environment where the individual is supported, teamwork is embraced, and creativity is encouraged through high-quality performing arts and educational programs that enrich and strengthen our community.
We’ve stayed true to this mission for 21 years now, and with your help, we hope to keep impacting the lives of thousands of youth performers for many, many years to come.
